It would be outstanding to see that feature return on this generation of consoles. EA Sports should bring back the ability to create a club. You can still create players with a fairly solid suite, but you still can't create teams. My biggest gripe with an otherwise strong title is the lack of customization. This is admittedly a small detail, but when you look at what other sports games are doing with facial expressions, it's noticeable when others don't offer the same technology.

I've seen much better in other series and that's something the developers should work to improve in the future.Įvery player shows emotion after a goal, but otherwise, the players in FIFA 18 run around the pitch emotionless. There are a variety of players in the game with hairstyles that have volume, yet it's very dense in FIFA.

I'm not sure if it's the lighting or some other factor, but the scanned player faces don't look as good as they do in other games, namely Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.Īlso, hair isn't very realistic. The audio presentation is just a touch below the visual, but overall this is an excellent presentation package.įIFA's player models are still rendered nicely, but I was hoping to see a bigger jump in quality. Martin Tyler and Allen Smith are back and just as good as they were last year with their current-day comments and welcomed storytelling.

Whether it's English Premier League action, a La Liga match or a preseason tournament, all the games look different.īeautiful and informative statistical overlays and branded transitions offer as much of a TV-style broadcast as any sports game on the market. The Journey 2 remains an awesome departure from traditional play.Įvery sports game in the world should be looking at what FIFA 18 does to differentiate its presentation from match to match. You can still choose to play as Hunter exclusively or as the entire team.įIFA continues to be the only game that offers that functionality in its single-player experience. The voice acting and narrative are just as strong and this has become a story I don't want to end anytime soon. This year's story centers around the prospects of Alex Hunter's transfer. While we're at it, perhaps NBA Street can make a comeback as well, but I digress. This segment reminds us how fun FIFA Street was to play and most of us hope this is a precursor to the series returning. The story begins in Brazil where Alex Hunter and his teammate are challenged to a 3v3 match that plays identically to FIFA Street. I loved The Journey in FIFA 17 and this year's continuation of the story is even cooler. You gain a great appreciation for the attention to detail in this area. The replays of goals and near misses are great to watch and inspect. None of the physical reactions appeared to be over the top. Even a brush of a players foot can cause him or her to hit the ground, or to trip. Players stumble and collapse realistically when interacting with opponents and teammates. The same can be said for player-to-player physics. The slightest touch can alter the course of the ball. In every instance that I saw in the matches I played, the ball physics were superb. It's most apparent on light touches or passes and shots that aren't struck with power. The heavier ball I mentioned shouldn't be looked at as a drawback. The Ball And Players Bounce And Collide Beautifully I'm not an expert FIFA player, but I'm good enough to exploit a poorly performing CPU. When you score or get into a position to find the back of the net, it'll be because you set yourself up properly, or you will have taken advantage of a complete mismatch of speed and skill in a given matchup. CPU defenders are better and smarter when it comes to challenges and taking proper angles to stop runs.
